Summary

Believers live in the midst of an active, unseen spiritual battle where dark powers aim to deceive, divide, and destroy God's children. Rather than falling into hyper-obsession or ignoring the spiritual realm, Christians are called to cultivate spiritual discernment and maintain sobriety of mind. By rejecting earthly demonic wisdom and relying on the indwelling Holy Spirit, believers experience the true peace and flourishing that come from heavenly wisdom.

Pastor's Points

1.

Deceive the children of God: Dark powers turn good created things into ultimate, idolatrous things that break the Creator-creation distinction.

2.

Divide the children of God: Dark powers stir up conflict and disunity, especially within the household of God.

3.

Destroy the children of God: Dark powers target believers to inflict pain on God's children because they cannot destroy Yahweh Himself.

Key Points

1.
Christians live in the midst of a real, unseen spiritual war, and dark powers actively seek to deceive, divide, and destroy God's children.
2.
C.S. Lewis highlighted two equal dangers regarding spiritual warfare: hyper-obsession with spirits ("magicians") and completely ignoring the unseen realm ("materialists").
3.
Scripture reveals two contrasting sources of wisdom: earthly, demonic wisdom driven by bitter envy and selfish ambition, and heavenly wisdom that is pure, peace-loving, and submissive.
4.
Jesus Christ is the uncreated Creator who made and holds together all things in heaven and earth, including every spiritual power and authority.
5.
The enemy seeks to compromise believers' mental clarity and induce spiritual intoxication, whereas God desires clear-minded, sober devotion.
6.
Counterfeit practices like astrology, mediums, necromancy, and occult tools offer false light; believers possess the superior reality of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
7.
The dark powers believed crucifying Jesus was their triumph, but Christ's sacrifice disarmed the enemy and achieved victory over sin and death.

Sermon Moments

“"There is no pain like kid pain... They know they can't ever take out Yahweh. So if they can't take out Yahweh, who are they going to go after? His kids."”

“"The dark powers love both obsession with demon hunting and complete demythologizing of the unseen realm. The goal is spiritual discernment."”

“"The enemy wants us to see, desire, and take. Yahweh wants us to see, desire, and submit to His will."”

“"God wants sobriety of mind so we can know Him and be known by Him; the enemy wants mental faculties compromised so we can be deceived."”

“"Why pursue counterfeit spiritual experiences when you have the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit Himself?"”

“"Of the 127 majestic pillars of the ancient Temple of Artemis, only one remains standing—housing a family of storks—while 2,000 years later, the household of God is alive and flourishing worldwide."”

This Week

Practice daily spiritual discernment by evaluating cultural trends, choices, and desires through Scripture rather than earthly wisdom.

Guard your mental clarity and sobriety of mind, avoiding habits or substances that compromise spiritual alertness.

Reject counterfeit spiritual practices—such as astrology, horoscopes, tarot, or crystal energy—and rely solely on God's Word and the Holy Spirit.

Protect the unity of the church by actively resisting gossip, division, and conflict that serve the enemy's desire to fragment God's family.

When facing strong desires, practice the pattern of "see, desire, submit" rather than "see, desire, take."

Trust God's boundaries and His timing, remembering that seeking unauthorized spiritual shortcuts always leads to harm.

Lean on the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in times of pain, knowing Christ's victory on the cross secures your eternal hope.

Remember This

Earthly demonic wisdom leads to deception, division, and ultimate ruin, but believers who walk in sober-minded discernment and yield to the Holy Spirit experience the true flourishing of heavenly wisdom.

A Challenge for You

We can learn to reject the demonic wisdom of earth that comes from below. We can learn to receive the heavenly wisdom that comes from above—Jesus Himself.
