Pastor's Points
Key Points
- 1.Hope is most alive when everything seems hopeless, acting as the soil in which deep faith begins.
- 2.Charles Spurgeon viewed his severe depression as a forerunner, like John the Baptist, preparing his heart for God's upcoming blessings.
- 3.Hope for the future is built on remembering God's past faithfulness and former times of joyful worship.
- 4.Keeping a journal allows believers to look back during dark seasons and recall concrete evidence of God's past intervention.
- 5.When surrounding circumstances crumble and even those closest turn away, believers must learn to encourage themselves in the Lord as David did at Ziklag.
- 6.Hope sings when it feels like crying; singing and worship shift our focus away from personal misery toward God's magnificent greatness.
- 7.Worship captures human emotions and brings them back into submission to God's truth, causing present problems to shrink in comparison.
- 8.Believers should intentionally praise God even when they do not feel like it, allowing God to lift their countenance and transform their faces.
