Summary

In this powerful message, Dr. Tony Evans unpacks what it truly means to live as an overcomer in Jesus Christ. While believers are legally victors through salvation, we must translate that spiritual standing into daily personal reality by seeing Jesus as the exalted, sovereign Lord of Revelation. By identifying with the finished work of the cross, standing openly in public confession, and dying to self daily, believers can overrule every illegitimate circumstance and walk in prescripted victory.

Themes

Overcoming Through ChristThe Exalted Lordship of JesusSpiritual AuthorityPublic Testimony and FaithDying to SelfThe Power of the Cross

Pastor's Points

1.

1. Identification with the Cross (The Blood of the Lamb)

2.

2. Identification with the Confession (The Word of Their Testimony)

3.

3. Identification with the Commitment (Loving Not Their Lives Unto Death)

Key Points

1.
Legally, every believer has been made an overcomer through Jesus Christ, but this spiritual status must become an everyday personal reality.
2.
To overcome means to actively overrule sin, addiction, or illegitimate circumstances so that they no longer rule over your life.
3.
Walking in overcoming power requires shifting your view of Jesus from a gentle, passive figure to the exalted, majestic, and sovereign Lord shown in Revelation.
4.
The magnitude of any personal problem pales in comparison to Christ, who carried and conquered the sins of the entire world on the cross.
5.
Believers prevail over spiritual opposition when they apply the finished work of Christ's blood directly to present-day decisions and choices.
6.
Experiencing God's overcoming power requires an open, public declaration of faith rather than living as a covert or secret Christian.
7.
True overcomers cultivate a deep love for Christ that supersedes self-preservation, choosing to die to self daily and prioritize Him above life itself.
8.

Sermon Moments

“"To overcome means to overrule a sin or a set of circumstances that are illegitimate."”

“"If you and I are going to be overcomers in practice, not in principle, you're going to have to see the Jesus that John saw... this is not Jesus meek and mild, this is Jesus on fire."”

“"If you're a believer in Jesus Christ, you don't have AAA, you got GGG—God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit."”

“"Anybody who can lift 700 lbs can lift 200 lbs... On the cross, Jesus Christ lifted the sins of the whole world for all men for all time."”

“"God places victory in your reach, not in your hand. He puts it within your reach because He needs to see you exercise faith to get it in your hand."”

“"You will not overcome whatever you're needing to overcome if you are a secret agent Christian... If you're a covert operative, forget overcoming."”

“"Every day when I get up in the morning, I say, 'I am dead to me and I'm alive to You. You are my life. You're not just a place I go on Sunday.'"”

This Week

Identify any illegitimate circumstance, sin, or habit currently holding you captive and actively ask God for the authority to overrule it in Jesus' name.

Read Revelation chapter 1 this week to adjust your view of Jesus from a gentle figure to the majestic, exalted Lord of power and authority.

Apply the finished work of the cross to your present daily choices rather than viewing Christ's sacrifice merely as a past historical event.

Refuse to live as a secret or covert Christian by boldly and publicly declaring your faith and testimony in your everyday environments.

Practice dying to self each morning by surrendering your personal desires, plans, and comforts to the sovereign lordship of Jesus Christ.

Memorize key victory scriptures such as Revelation 12:11 and Romans 8:37 to speak over spiritual battles throughout the week.

Stand firm during seasons of opposition by declaring that Christ has already prescripted your victory through His death and resurrection.

Remember This

Through active faith in the exalted, risen Christ and full identification with His cross, your legal position as an overcomer becomes your daily living reality.

A Challenge for You

"I know you're being thrown down. I know you're being beaten up, but you can now look at it and declare, 'I am an overcomer and I'm coming back at you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.'"
