Take this message with you through a journey of Scripture, reflection, and prayer.

Summary

In this powerful message, Pastor Jerry Flowers teaches that God possesses supreme authority over every storm, trial, and spiritual obstacle in a believer's life. Drawing from Jesus' ministry in Mark 1 and Matthew 8, he challenges believers to cultivate genuine spiritual discernment, confront hidden sins, and prioritize intentional prayer over surface-level religious routines. True spiritual breakthrough occurs when we put our old nature to death and trust that God always holds the final say.

4.

Unexpected Freedom

Key Points

1.
Needed Discernment: Spiritual discernment is distinct from suspicion; while suspicion stems from personal wounds, true discernment comes from the Holy Spirit to reveal spiritual realities.
2.
Leaving Demons Unbothered: Watered-down messages and surface-level entertainment allow spiritual darkness to sit comfortably in church settings without being confronted by the truth.
3.
Demons Come to Church Too: Attending church or sitting in a sanctuary does not automatically reflect spiritual transformation or alignment with God.
4.
Unexpected Freedom: God can instantly deliver believers from deep-seated struggles when His presence and truth interrupt comfortable routines.
5.
God's Overruling Authority: Just as Jesus commanded the winds and waves with a word, God holds supreme authority to overrule any trial, diagnosis, or crisis.
6.
True Faith Recognizes Divine Power: Like the Roman centurion, mature faith understands that God only needs to speak a word to transform any situation.
7.
Eulogizing the Old Nature: Genuine spiritual growth requires active surrender, choosing to put old habits, lusts, and idols to death rather than carrying them into new seasons.

Sermon Moments

“Suspicion comes from a wound that has now become your forecaster, but discernment comes from the Holy Spirit who has now become your counselor.”

“No longer will doubt, worry, or the fear of an outcome rob my peace. My God has the power to overrule.”

“What has happened to the church when sugarcoated sermons and entertainment allow spiritual darkness to sit unbothered in the sanctuary?”

“I got so used to carrying chains that I recognized what's hard is letting the chains go and trusting that He will really renew me.”

“You're going to have to do your own funeral eulogy, tears and all. You're going to have to let that old nature die.”

“The pain of going back to your sin is far greater than the pain of letting it go.”

This Week

Test spiritual teachings and influences against Scripture, relying on the Holy Spirit rather than human popularity or emotional noise.

Perform an honest spiritual inventory to identify secret sins, bad habits, or idols that need to be surrendered.

Speak God's authority over your anxieties by declaring: "No longer will doubt, worry, or fear of an outcome rob my peace; my God has the power to overrule."

Commit to consistent, private prayer and personal Bible study rather than depending solely on Sunday worship services.

Set healthy boundaries around your media consumption, entertainment, and social circles to avoid feeding old temptations.

Distinguish true repentance from mere emotional remorse by making actionable changes in your daily behavior.

Anchor your trust in God's spoken promises, believing that His Word holds power over every crisis or sickness you face.

Remember This

God holds absolute authority over every storm, trial, and spiritual force, and He has the power to overrule any circumstance in your life.

A Challenge for You

Be willing to do that funeral on today. On this day, make a righteous resolve to lay down and eulogize your old nature, trusting that God's power is sufficient to change your heart and make you new.
