Psalm
A collection of sacred songs for worship
The Book of Psalms is a collection of sacred songs used in the worship of God. The book does not name its author, but about two-thirds of the psalms are traditionally credited to David. Individual psalms are also ascribed to Moses, Solomon, Asaph, and the sons of Korah. Composed across a period of about 1,000 years, no psalm is dated later than the time of Ezra and Nehemiah. David first introduced music and song into tabernacle worship. These collections were compiled during periods of high religious life, reflecting every phase of human emotion and circumstances.
