Philippians
A thank-you letter written from prison in Rome
Paul wrote this letter while in prison in Rome, probably in late AD 61 or early AD 62. He addressed the church in Philippi, a Roman colony in Macedonia and the first church formed in Europe. The Philippian Christians felt a fervent affection for Paul, so they sent Epaphroditus with contributions to care for his needs. Paul sent this letter home with him. At the same time in Rome, Christianity was advancing rapidly, and Paul's imprisonment was actually helping spread the gospel extensively among the Roman soldiers.
