Obadiah
A prophecy against Edom after Jerusalem's fall
Obadiah wrote this book, the shortest in the Old Testament, concerning Edom and the restoration of Israel. He delivered his prophecies in or about 586 BC, around the time Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem. The calamity had already come upon the city. During this disaster, the Edomites likely joined forces with the Chaldeans, helping bring about Israel’s ruin and degradation. Obadiah spoke to announce God's coming judgments against Edom, proclaiming that all foes will be vanquished and the kingdom will be the LORD’s.
