Numbers
Thirty-eight years of wandering in the wilderness
The book of Numbers is traditionally credited to Moses for the chosen people of Israel. It takes place in the wilderness between Mount Sinai and the plain of Moab, covering about thirty-eight years starting in the second year after the Exodus. During this dreary time of wanderings, the Israelites are counted twice, spies are sent out, and the people repeatedly murmur and rebel in unbelief. That disobedient generation dies in the wilderness, while God maintains unceasing care over them.
