Mark
A rapid succession of vivid pictures of Jesus in power
This Gospel does not name its author, but it is traditionally credited to Mark, who derived his information mainly from Peter. It was intended primarily for Romans, probably written in Rome about AD 63, before the destruction of Jerusalem. Because these Gentile readers were unfamiliar with Jewish law, the writer takes care to explain Jewish usages, translate unfamiliar words like "Corban," and use certain Latin terms. Leaving out a genealogy, the Gospel offers a rapid succession of vivid pictures that present Jesus clothed with power.
