Malachi
A rebuke of corrupt worship and a promise of judgment
The prophet Malachi wrote this book to Israel and its leadership. At this time, the priests despised the LORD's name, turned away from his worship and covenant, and showed partiality in administering the law. Meanwhile, the people were intermarrying with idolatrous heathen. Malachi begins by reminding Israel of the LORD's love for them. He then sternly rebukes their disobedience and warns the whole nation of the coming God of judgment and the arrival of the Messiah.
