Leviticus
Laws for worship, purity, and holy living in the desert
Leviticus is traditionally credited to Moses and was given to the children of Israel. All of its instructions were delivered within a single month, during the first month of the second year after the Exodus. Having recently departed from Egypt, the people were living in the desert. The book sets down laws for Levitical worship, sacrifices, priestly duties for Aaron and his sons, purity ordinances, and major festivals. Given at the start of their wilderness journey, these commands established how Israel was to worship God and maintain separation from heathen nations.
