Joshua
Israel's conquest and division of Canaan
The Book of Joshua is traditionally credited to Joshua, except for the final verses added by another hand. It tells the history of the Israelites from the death of Moses to Joshua’s death. Set in Palestine about 1480 BC, the book covers a pivotal era. Egypt had fallen into decay and withdrawn its garrisons from Palestine, opening the way for the Hebrew invasion. At the same time, the local Canaanites had sunk into deep moral corruption. Joshua led the Israelite conquest, divided the land among the tribes, and delivered his final addresses.
