Job
A dramatic poem on severe suffering and divine wisdom
The Book of Job does not name its author. It is traditionally credited to figures like Job, Elihu, Isaiah, or most probably Moses, though some place its creation in the time of David and Solomon. Moses may have obtained the text while in Midian. The book was well known by about 600 BC. Set in ancient patriarchal times, it centers on the real-life trial and severe afflictions of Job. A dramatic controversy unfolds through dialogues between Job and his three friends, leading to speeches from Elihu and an address from the LORD.
