Genesis
The origin of all things and early history of Israel
Genesis is the first book of the Torah. The text does not name its author, but it is traditionally credited to Moses, who may have used earlier documents and traditions under divine guidance. The book gives an account of the origin of all things. Its first part outlines general human history down to the Dispersion. The second part presents the early history of Israel, focusing on Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and ending with the death of Joseph. These early events prepare for God's covenant with his people.
