Galatians
Defending the simple gospel against legalistic additions
Paul wrote this letter to the churches he had founded in Galatia, a region in central Asia Minor. He wrote it from Corinth in the winter of AD 57-8, likely soon after his second visit to the area. Urgent news had reached Paul that Judaizing teachers were influencing the Galatian believers—who were mostly converts from heathenism, along with some Jewish converts. These teachers were persuading the churches to adopt Jewish rites and incorporate them into Christianity. Paul wrote to defend his authority as an apostle and recall the believers to the simplicity of the gospel.
