Ezekiel
Visions of judgment and restoration from exile
Ezekiel, a priest and prophet, wrote this book for the Jewish exiles and his people. He was carried away captive to Chaldea about 597 BC and lived at Tel-Abib along the Chebar River. God called him to be a prophet about 594 BC, and his ministry lasted from 595 to 573 BC. Living in exile, Ezekiel spoke while false prophets lied and Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem. His words first warned the Jews of Jerusalem's destruction, then promised the future triumph and prosperity of God's kingdom.
