Exodus
Israel's deliverance from Egypt and journey to Sinai
The book of Exodus is traditionally credited to Moses. It recounts the great deliverance of Israel from Egypt about 1490 BC. For generations, the Israelites had laboured as slaves without wages. Plagues fell upon the land, loosening Pharaoh’s hold, until God struck the Egyptian firstborn and Pharaoh urged them to leave. The people observed the first Passover, marched out of Egypt, and crossed the Red Sea under God's direction. They journeyed through the wilderness to Sinai, where God gave them His law and established them as a holy nation.
