Esther
A historical account of Jewish survival in Persia
The book of Esther does not name its author, but it is traditionally credited to one of the Jews of the dispersion who lived at the same time as Mordecai and Esther. It was written probably about 444–434 BC, following the death of King Ahasuerus in 465 BC. The book is purely historical, offering a detailed account of events from that era. Uniquely, the name of God does not occur anywhere in it, yet the story wonderfully exhibits the providential government of God.
