Colossians
A letter countering false teaching with Christ's fullness
Paul wrote this letter to the church in Colossae during his first imprisonment in Rome, probably in AD 57 or 62. Although Paul had not visited the city, he received news about the believers there. False teaching was threatening the church. Certain thinkers tried to combine Oriental mysticism and asceticism with Christianity, promising a deeper spiritual life. Judaizing teachers were also trying to pull disciples away with rules about new moons and sabbath days. Paul wrote to counteract these false teachings and show that in Christ Jesus they had all things.
