2 Chronicles
Reconnecting the restored nation with its past
2 Chronicles does not name its author, but the book is traditionally credited to Ezra. It was written after the Babylonian Exile, probably between 450 and 435 BC. Cyrus had permitted the Jews to return to their land after captivity had broken their national life. Writing for this returning community, the author gathered public records, registers, and genealogies to reconnect the people with their past. Rather than focusing on political events, the book highlights moral truth, religious history, and temple services for the restored nation.
