1 Timothy
Instructions for church order and sound teaching
The apostle Paul wrote this letter to Timothy, a young disciple and companion whom he called his "own son in the faith." Paul wrote from Macedonia, probably Philippi, about AD 66 or 67. This took place during the interval between Paul's first and second imprisonments, after he visited his former labors in Greece and Asia. Paul had left Timothy behind in Ephesus. To help against surrounding errors, Paul wrote to give counsel on worship, church organization, member responsibilities, and faithfully maintaining the truth.
