1 Thessalonians
Paul's first letter to a young church in Macedonia
Paul wrote this letter—his very first epistle—to the church in Thessalonica, a large Roman capital in Macedonia. On an earlier visit, violent opposition from local Jews had driven Paul out of the city. He wrote this letter in all probability from Corinth, about the end of AD 52. Timothy had just returned from Macedonia with news. While his report was encouraging, errors regarding Paul's teaching had crept in. Paul wrote to correct these errors, exhorting them to purity of life.
