1 Peter
A letter of comfort and hope for persecuted believers
The apostle Peter wrote this letter to "the strangers scattered abroad," meaning the Jews of the Dispersion in the provinces of Asia Minor. He wrote from Babylon on the Euphrates, a chief center for Jewish learning and ministry at that time. His readers were enduring persecution. Peter wrote to confirm them in the doctrines they had already been taught, offering comfort to sustain a "lively hope." He urged them toward steadfastness, practical holy living, and patience through Christ's example.
