1 John
Declaring the Word of Life for fellowship with God
This general letter does not name its author, but it is traditionally credited to John the evangelist. It was probably written at Ephesus when the writer was in advanced age. The letter was sent to declare the Word of Life to its readers so they might be united in fellowship with God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. The text shows how union with God comes through Christ’s atoning work and advocacy. It also explains that this union requires human holiness, obedience, purity, faith, and love.
