1 Corinthians
Correction for a divided and troubled church
The apostle Paul wrote this letter from Ephesus, probably in AD 57, to the believers in Corinth. Corinth was a wealthy Grecian city, known for its luxurious and immoral habits. Paul had previously resided there for eighteen months. While in Ephesus, he heard of severe troubles in the church through Chloe's household, visiting friends, and a letter from Corinth. The believers were struggling with bitter divisions, notorious immorality, Lord's Supper abuses, and doubts about the resurrection. Paul wrote in deep anguish to correct these errors and restore order.
