1 Chronicles
Restoring heritage and worship after the Exile
1 Chronicles does not name its author, but the book is traditionally credited to Ezra. It was composed after the Babylonian Exile, probably between 450 and 435 BC, for the Jewish people who had returned to their land. The Captivity had broken the threads of their old national life. To restore order, the writer gathered public records, registers, and genealogical tables. The book emphasizes moral and religious truth, focusing on temple worship, the Levites, and the genealogies required to distribute land and organize sacred services.
